AMISULPRIDE


TRADE NAMES:


INDIA- Amgrace, Amigold, Bipro-life, Goldpride,Psyride, Sizopride, Sulpitac, Zulpride.


INTERNATIONAL- Amiprid, Amisulprid Dura, Amitrex, Goldian, Sulamid, Sulprid, Zoloser.


INDICATIONS:


It is used as an atypical antipsychotic used to treat psychosis in  schizophrenia and episodes of mania in bipolar disease and episodes of mania in bipolar disorder. It corrects the imbalance of chemical substances acting on the nervous system.In small doses it is used to treat dysthmia (neurotic depression).


CONTRAINDICATIONS:


Phaeochromacytoma ( tumors of the adrenal gland)


Tumors


Children less than 15 years old


Breast feeding


PREGNANCY CATEGORY: B


DOSAGE:


ORAL: 400-800mg/day in divided doses. Max: 1.2g/day


IM: 400mg/day


- If tablet, consume it on an empty stomach.


-If it comes as solution for injection, it needs to be administered by a healthcare provider into the large muscle.


WARNINGS & CAUTIONS:


-Caution need to be exercised when administering the drug to a patient with a history of epilepsy, brain damage, Parkinson's disease, Heart disease, abnormal heart rhythm, disturbances in blood electrolyte levels,dementia, pregnancy, high blood pressure, smoker and alcoholism.


-Drug causes drowsiness, dizziness, don't drive the car while taking the medication.


-Avoid abrupt withdrawl of drug.


-Monitor blood sugar level, blood pressure.


SIDE EFFECTS:


COMMON: anxiety,restlessness, increased salivation.


-Symptoms: high fever, sweating, faster breathe may be experienced.


CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: Sleepiness or sleeplessness, dyskinesia( involuntary movements), drowsiness, dizziness and seizures.


GASTROINTESTINAL: Constipation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth and increased appetite.


HEART: Abnormal heart rhythm, slow heart rate and low blood pressure.


MISCELLANEOUS: Impotence, weight gain, fever and allergic reactions.


Prolactin production which causes amenorrhea and galactorrhea in women, nausea, weight gain, insomnia, sexual dysfunction. They also prolong QT interval which leads to arrthymias. Overdose of amisulpride caused Torsades  de pointes.


OTHER PRECAUTIONS:

Avoid excess dosage.

Store it at room temperature (25 to 30°C) and in an airtight container.

USES:
·   It is used in treating symptoms like stomach upset, heart burn, and acid indigestion. It relieves symptoms of extra gas such belching, bloating and feelings of pressure.

·   Simethicone in this breaks up the gas bubbles in the gut. Aluminium and Magnesium work quickly to lower the acid in stomach. Liquid antacids usually work faster better than tablets.

MEDICATION:

·  It is usually taken by mouth. Usually is taken after meals and at bedtime as needed.

·  Chewable tablets, chew thoroughly by swallowing then drink full glass of water.

·  Liquid form, shake the bottle well by pouring each dose.

·  Refrigeration can improve flavour.

·  Do not freeze.

INTERACTIONS:

·   It reacts with other medications (digoxin, iron, tetracycline, antibiotics, and quinoline antibiotics prevent them from fully being absorbed by our body.

SIDE EFFECTS:

· It can cause nausea, constipation, diarrhoea and headache.

·  Magnesium can cause diarrhoea. Antacid containing aluminium decreases diarrhoea control.

PRECAUTIONS:

·   Tell if you are allergic to aluminium hydroxide or to magnesium or simethicone or any allergies.

·  Consult doctor if any health problems: alcohol use, severe body water loss (dehydration), kidney stone.

·  This medicine may contain aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any diseases consult doctor or pharmacist.

·  Medicine may contain sugar. If you have diabetes it is necessary to consult and then take medication.

·  During pregnancy, medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with doctor. Medication passes into breast milk and consult doctor before breast feeding.

·         Liquid products may be stored in refrigerator.
